ENR Midwest completed its assessment of eligible projects for their Best Projects Awards and the Delta Energy Park, a significant project for Newkirk Electric, was named winner of the Energy/Industrial category. Newkirk Electric partnered with Barton Malow and the Lansing Board of Water and Light to complete this impressive new 250MW natural gas-fired power plant. The Delta Energy Park was one of the most significant projects in Newkirk’s 60+ year history.
Multiple divisions at Newkirk teamed up to complete the impressive project including Theka engineering, Substation, Lines, and Power/Industrial which managed the project. Newkirk installed the new 138kV substation, duct bank, grounding, over 100,000 feet of PVC/RGS conduit in concrete encased duct banks. Subsequently, Newkirk was awarded the non-process package, which included the plant lighting, general receptacles, welding receptacles, power panels and transformers, and security rough in. Finally, Newkirk was awarded the late balance of plant electrical package which consisted of the process electrical scope including, power, controls, instrumentation throughout the plant and miscellaneous supporting buildings, as well as the design build of the security, lightning protection, phone/PA system, corporate network, and maintenance network. Theka Engineering supplied design and controls for a 1500kw CAT engine generator for the plant as well.
